San Rafael – In Defense of Animals (IDA)’s third annual World GO VEGAN Days take place October 26, 27, 28, 2007. The days of action were created to offer vegans and animal advocates the opportunity to help their families, friends, and co-workers learn more about how a plant-based diet can improve overall health, alleviate animal suffering, and preserve the environment.

World GO VEGAN Days

Modern animal agriculture is cruel and violent toward the chickens, cows, pigs, fish, and other creatures used to make meat, milk, and eggs. But the billions of animals killed for food in the U.S. each year aren’t the only ones who suffer because of meat consumption. Consumers who indulge in meat and dairy foods also pay a high price, as consumption of animal products has been linked to a host of health ailments.

Medical studies have proven that consumption of animal products is directly linked to the three biggest killers in the U.S. – heart disease, cancer, and stroke – as well as diabetes, salmonella, E coli and other bacterial infections.

“Sixteen billion animals are killed in the U.S. alone each year and they suffer unimaginable cruelties. Animals raised on factory farms are debeaked, dehorned, branded, and castrated without painkillers. Many have their throats slit while they are still fully conscious,” says IDA president Elliot M. Katz, DVM. “But eating animal products is killing us too. A vegan diet is better for human health, the environment, and animals too.”

Animal advocates around the globe will observe World GO VEGAN Days by holding potluck dinners, restaurant outings, cooking demonstrations, feed-ins, public lectures, leafleting, information tables, library exhibits, and street theater.

This year’s World GO VEGAN Days is co-presented by Compassion Over Killing, Farm Animal Reform Movement, and Veg News. For more information, please visit www.WorldGoVeganDays.com.
