The Vegan Society today slammed the glamorous presenters of Channel 4’s Cook Yourself Thin as “obsessed with meat” and “out of touch with really healthy eating”. “Vegan women weigh an average of 5 kilos less than their meat-eating counterparts, without dieting,” says Vegan Society Chief Executive Nigel Winter.

Cook Yourself Thin“Young women are eating less meat than ever before, yet this programme is stuffed with meat recipes, and presenter Harry fancies herself as a butcher,” adds Nigel, an accomplished chef and cookery instructor. “By replacing meat and dairy products with healthier plant foods, as featured in Channel Four’s other hit show ‘You Are What You Eat’, it’s easy to ‘drop dress sizes’. Meat and dairy are the biggest food sources of saturated fat – replacing them with protein-rich plants such as soya, chick peas and kidney beans is an easy way to stay healthy.”

Research shows that a balanced plant-based diet – featuring lots of brightly coloured fruit and vegetables – is a great foundation for a healthy lifestyle and can add up to 10 healthy years to your life. Famous trim vegans include actress Alicia Silverstone, pop star Heather Small, and model Heather Mills.
