Today we went to Amsterdam to buy some new jeans. I wanted jeans which are using organic cotton and where produced with respect for the environment and people. This lead us to Nukuhiva, a store concept created by Floortje Dessing, a Dutch radio and television presenter. Nukuhiva solely sells fair trade products from brands like Kuyichi, Simple Shoes, Veja and Edun.

The store in the Haarlemmerstraat 36 in Amsterdam is relatively small and has two levels, one for women and the other one for men. I was hoping to find jeans from M’BRAZE or DutchSpirit, as Kuyichi unfortunately uses leather labels on their jeans, but they only had jeans from Kuyichi in the store. As I didn’t have much choice, I bought two and later at home removed the label. With the shoes it was a similar situation. They had some Simple and Veja shoes, but non of the vegan shoes from Simple. It is positive that this store exists, but they only have a limited selection as the market for these products obviously is still too small.
